Lithica: After having been used to quarry sandstone, the Quarries of S’Hostal, a landscape of monumental proportions with a three-dimensional, sculptural beauty, have been redeveloped by Líthica and are today a very popular cultural centre. The two distinct methods of quarrying the sandstone have created two contrasting areas: The old manually-worked quarries form a labyrinth of stone and vegetation between inclined walls and irregular shapes where the s’Hostal gardens are being developed to include a botanical circuit lined with native plants and a medieval garden. The modern quarries are vast, impressive spaces dominated by precise vertically dressed walls forming a cubical amphitheatre where concerts are held in the summer.
